Tunisia 102nd “happiest country in the world” out of 155

Tunisia has been ranked 102nd out of 155 countries in the World Happiness Report for 2017 released Monday by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations.

The report ranked countries on seven main factors that support happiness: caring, freedom, generosity, good governance, honesty, health and income.

Algeria tops African countries in this annual report (53rd worldwide), ahead of Mauritius, Libya, Morocco, Somalia, Nigeria, South Africa and then Tunisia, Egypt and Sierra Leone.

In the Arab world, Tunisia was ranked 11th. The United Arab Emirates is the champion of the Arab world, and 21st on the planet ahead of Qatar and Saudi Arabia…

After ranking fourth for the last two years, Norway jumped three spots and displaced three-time winner Denmark to take the title of “world’s happiest country” for the first time.

Denmark dropped to second place this year, followed by Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand and Australia and Sweden (which tied for ninth place).

Denmark has won the title three of the four times the report has been issued, while Switzerland has won the title just once.

People in the Central African Republic are unhappiest with their lives, according to the survey of 155 countries, followed by Burundi (154), Tanzania (153), Syria (152) and Rwanda (151).

The U.N. General Assembly declared March 20 as World Happiness Day in 2012, recognizing “happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world.”

The first of five World Happiness Reports was first published in April 2012 in conjunction with the U.N. High Level Meeting on happiness and well-being.
