Tunisia: 15 companies join EDILE program

Fifteen Tunisian companies have joined the Economic Development through Local and Inclusive Development (EDILE) program which offers economic development organizations assessment and guidance tools on the local impact of investment projects, announced Mongia Khemiri, Director at the Ministry of Development and International Co-operation.

“Tunisia is the only partner country to this project, which aims to promote inclusive development of local economies, to have presented large number of investment projects,” she told TAP on the sidelines of the closure of the EDILE project. The project has three main goals, recalled Khemiri.

They include building the capacity of local authorities involved in the regulation of investment in terms of upstream selection and assessment of projects, supporting investors and improving the process of governance through the establishment of co-ordination and dialogue tools between public and private stakeholders, local administrative and the civil society, also noted the official.

Nationally, the EDILE project proposes a tool allowing Tunisian companies to engage in three priority axes for the country, namely regional imbalance, employment and the environmental component, she also pointed out.

EDILE project for inclusive growth

The EDILE project is funded by the European Union to the tune of EUR 1.7 million through the European Neighborhood Instrument. It is implemented by ANIMA investment network and 7 Euro-Mediterranean partners

For Tunisia, the Industry Promotion Agency has been responsible since December 17, 2013, for the implementation of this program in the country and the dissemination of the EDILE guide among national and international organizations.

The EDILE Label supported by 43 countries of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), was built by experts and rests on 35 rating criteria tested for two years in pilot companies.

It aims to valorize investment projects having positive local impact on the economic, social and environmental fields and bring together a community of companies that share the same values.
