Tunisia: $ 4.22 million from FAO for three agricultural projects

Agreements on three agricultural projects worth USD 4.122 million, equivalent to 8.108 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) were signed Monday between Tunisia and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), announced the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.

The first project, whose costs are estimated at USD 1.622 million (about 3,174 MTD), relates to the fight against youth migration, rural poverty and food security.

According to the statement released Monday, the project provides for the establishment of new mechanisms and strategies for rural development and the creation of jobs and projects for young people in rural areas.

As for the 2nd project, whose costs are estimated at 500,000 dollars (978.500 thousand dinars), it concerns the strengthening of political and institutional aspects in order to support the agricultural sector and poor categories.

It involves putting in place adequate strategies to develop the sector’s environment to ensure food security, improve the living conditions of the beneficiaries and strengthen the role of women in this sector.

The third project on the fight against agricultural damage and food waste to achieve food security is valued at two million dollars (about 3.910 million dinars).

The project aims to minimize agricultural losses and food waste, to ensure food security through contribution to strengthening the efficiency of the food chain.

It also aims to improve agricultural industries and post-harvest processing techniques, storage of agricultural products and marketing of high-value food staples.
