Tunisia: debt management agency to be created by end 2016 (Exclusive)

In an interview with African Manager Wednesday, Finance Minister Slim Chaker announced the creation of an agency in charge of debt management by the end of 2016.

The minister said that the preparation of the file thereon is being coordinated with the World Bank. “Our goal is clear. This is simply to ensure the transition from a passive debt management into an active and dynamic management, through an updated roadmap, “he added.

Slim Chaker also noted that the new agency will be managed by specialized expertise in the Ministry of Finance.

For many experts, this is a strategic approach in so far as the debt has risen today to over 54% and the worst is yet to come. This can also be explained by the wage slip in the state budget, but also by sagging public companies which accumulate deficits of more than four billion dinars.
