Tunisia: operations of South Gas Project to begin in early 2018 (Minister)

The South Tunisian Gas Project (STGP) or “Nawara” project will begin operations in early 2018, announced Minister of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energy Hella Cheikhrouhou.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion of her visit Saturday to the industrial area in Gabes, she added that efforts are focused currently on solving problems that might delay work of this project.

The rate of progress of the project has reached approximately 60% and work of the final processing unit underway in the industrial area in Gabes is at 75%, since 90% of the equipment of that unit have been installed, according to data presented by project managers.

The South gas project whose cost is 2,500 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) consists, in particular, of a preliminary processing unit in Nawara in Tataouine another final processing unit in the industrial area of Gabes and a gas pipeline connecting the two units over a distance of 370km.

Cheikhrouhou said a program of investment in renewable energy will be announced shortly and will drastically change the operation of these energies, while positively impacting on the activity of techno-parks that wish to benefit from these investments, as is the case for technological and industrial centre of Gabes.
