Tunisia-tourism: decline in overnight stays and revenue

Tourism in Tunisia is still struggling according to the latest figures released by the Tunisian Ministry of Finance.

Revived at the end of the high season by Algerian and Russian arrivals which are said to have saved the season, the sector rather poorly starts the low season which followed indeed a downward trend.

Indeed, after rising 38.2% between July 16 and August 16 of this year, tourist overnight stays went down by 35.2% between August 16 and September 16, 2016, totaling 18,280.000 nights.

Revenues from the tourism sector also declined. These revenues, according to figures reported by the Ministry of Finance, fell by 43.3% between August 16 and September 16, 2016, from 455.9 MTD (the peak of the year 2016) to 258.1 MTD and totaling 2,512 MTD until September 16 of the current year, which would give a revenue of 137.5 DT per night.
