Tunisia: unemployment rate reached 15.6% in 2016 (INS)

Tunisia’s unemployment rate reached 15.6% in 2016, compared to 15.2% in 2015, Hédi Saidi, Director General of the National Institute of Statistics (INS), told TAP last Friday.

He added that the national census on population and employment carried out each quarter by the INS was based, in the second quarter, on a representative sample of 145 thousand people, noting that the sample size of the other quarters is of 45 thousand people.

The results of the national population and employment census carried out in the fourth quarter of the previous year and available on the official INS website revealed that the number of unemployed was 632.5 thousand in the third quarter of the same year, i.e. an unemployment rate of 15.5%.

The unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2016 was 12.5% for men and 23.1% for women.
