Tunisia buys about 75,000 tons durum wheat in tender

Tunisia’s state grains agency purchased about 75,000 tons of durum wheat to be sourced from optional origins in an international tender which closed on Wednesday, Reuters quoted European traders as saying.

The purchase was made in three 25,000 ton consignments, they said, confirming initial estimates.

One consignment was purchased at $338.50 a ton c&f from trading house Ameropa, traders said. Two others consignments were both purchased from Glencore and were priced at $342.19 a ton c&f and $343.10 a ton c&f, they said.

The tender sought shipment between April 15 and May 10, depending on the country of origin.

“The tender was difficult because of the general lockdown and curfew orders in many countries,” one European trader said.

“There were initial market rumors that the tender had been cancelled but eight companies submitted offers which was decent participation.”

In its last reported durum tender on March 17, Tunisia’s state grains agency purchased about 67,000 tons at the lowest price of about $326 a ton c&f.
