Tunisia: French tourists edge up 37% from 2017

A total of 592 thousand French tourists visited Tunisia until September 20, 2018, posting “a 37% growth of the French market between January and September 20, 2018,” General Director of the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT), Néji Ben Othmane told TAP during the 40th edition of the Iftm Top Resa Tourism Fair held from September 25 to 28 in Paris.

He added the total number of tourists having stayed in Tunisia during the aforementioned period amounted to more than 6 million tourists, i.e. a growth of 17% compared to the same period of the year 2017.

The General Director of ONTT also said European markets grew by 46%, with the German market rising 60% and the Belgian market up 100%.

Ben Othmane pointed out that “tourism receipts recorded a 48% evolution from January to September 10, equivalent to 2,818.5 million dinars or €925 million, which represents a growth 28% compared to the same period last year “.

As for the objectives for the next tourist season on the French market, the director general of the Tunisian National Tourist Office affirmed that “the ONTT is expecting 800 to 900 thousand French tourists”.

For ONTT’s general manager for France, Sami Gharbi, “2018 is one of the best in recent years”. He announces “an increase in business tourism and long stays of seniors who will consolidate more results at the end of the year.”

For this purpose, a new communication campaign based on urban signage in Ile-de-France and departure cities started in September and will continue until November, and will resume in early January 2019.

The ONTT in Paris has set up a stand of 104 square meters to allow nearly 200 Tunisian tourism professionals, who participate in the 40th edition of Iftm Top Resa, to make deals and position themselves more on the French market. .
