Tunisia: grain harvest set to decline to 1.4 million tons

Tunisia expects its grain harvest to fall to 1.4 million tons this season from 1.6 million tonnes last season because of lack of rain, the Agriculture Ministry said on Sunday.
The crop includes 923,000 tonnes of durum wheat, 119,000 tonnes of soft wheat and 362,000 tonnes of barley.
The average grain crop in the country, where output swings sharply because of cyclical drought, has been 1.7 million tonnes over the last decade.
Tunisia devotes most of its fertile irrigated farmland to durum wheat and imports mainly soft wheat and barley.
Farming represents about 13 percent of gross domestic product.
