Tunisia: handicraft exports should bring in 80 MD in 2019

Exports of handicraft products should bring in 80 million dinars (MD) in 2019, against 79 million in 2018, according to a document provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts.

The volume of investments in the sector should reach 24.4 MD in 2019, against 22.134 MD in 2018, 22.608 MD in 2017 and 16 MD in 2016.

According to the same document, the number of artisans participating in trade shows and fairs went up from 3,124 in 2017 to 4,438 people in 2018. This number should reach 5,000 participants by the end of 2019.

As for events dedicated to crafts, their number reached 92 compared to 32 events in 2016.

Regarding the quality label awarded to craft products in the weaving and tapestry sector in 2019, it will be generalized to all other craft sectors, and this, from January 2020, said the same source.

2020 will also see the opening of craft villages in the governorates of Kasserine, Gafsa, Tataouine and Ben Arous.
