Tunisia: investment in regional development zones up

The first nine months of 2018 saw an increase in reported investment in regional development zones by 12.4% with 1,354.2 MD against 1,204.8 MD during the first nine months of 2017.

The share of these areas in all governorates increased from 45.3% to 49.6% in the first nine months of 2018.

The increase recorded in reported investments in regional development zones is attributable mainly to the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, whose reported investments grew 68.9% in the first nine months of 2018 (174.3 MD vs. 103.2 MD), mainly following the reported creation of a production unit of refractory products for 82.1MD and the reported extension of a dairy and cheese production unit for a total of 55 MD.

This is the same for the governorate of Gafsa whose investment went up by (+50.8%), Zaghouan (71.5%), Sfax (+ 119.4%), Beja (71.5%), Siliana (71.5%) and Jendouba (68.9%).
