Tunisia: KfW provides €27.5 million loan

A €27.5 million (85.4 million dinars) funding agreement was inked Tuesday by the German Development Bank (KfW) and the Tunisian government at the seat of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The agreement is designed to set in motion the second phase of the modernization of the Medjerda-Cap Bon channel (CMCB II) project which falls in line with the program of

integrated water resources management for the development of rural regions in Tunisia, KfW Tunis Office said in a press release.

It will help fund the inspection of structures in the channel, the modernization of Béjaoua pumping station and the reinforcement of the penstock pipe and the rehabilitation of the channel in Borj Cédria.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries will implement the second phase of the project which fits within financial cooperation between Tunisia and Germany.

The project is intended to upgrade and ensure the most effective use of existing structures and equipment in Medjerda Cap Bon channel and respond to increasing irrigation and drinking water demand.

Medjerda channel helps irrigate 19,000 ha and meets drinking water demand in Greater Tunis, the Sahel region and Sfax.
