Tunisia: new customs provision for importers as from October 30

“Importers operating in Tunisia are asked to provide, from 30 October 2017, the customs declaration document of the exporting country to have it attached to the customs clearance file,” the Ministry of Trade announced Wednesday.

The Ministry also stated that a joint statement with the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) and the Directorate General of Customs was published on September 25, 2017 to organise this provision, which mainly covers food, cosmetics and industrial consumption.

The purpose of this provision is to organize import operations, ensure transparency of customs declarations and combat the presentation of false customs declarations with the lowest prices for imported products, thereby affecting the revenue of the State and undermining the rules of fair competition.
