Tunisia and Nigeria and signed six memoranda of understanding to strengthen their cooperation in six key sectors.
The agreements were signed in Abuja on Tuesday by the Foreign Ministers of Nigeria and Tunisia, Geoffrey Onyeama and Khemaies Jhinaoui, respectively, at the close of the fifth session of the Joint Ministerial Commission.
They involve the political, defense, security, economic and social fields and consular relations.
A statement issued at the end of the session states that the agreements also cover issues such as consumer protection, social affairs, cooperation and cultural exchange, energy and trade cooperation.
It added that both countries reiterated their commitment to renewing their partnership and strengthening long-standing political and socio-economic relations and cooperation.
According to the statement, the commission agreed that the two countries would continue to maintain beneficial relations in other areas such as shipping, air services, tourism, vocational training and employment, compliance with product standards…
Other areas include technical cooperation, crafts, industry and trade, capacity building, diplomatic training, defense, education and cultural exchange, investment promotion, science and technology, information, communication and political consultations.
The two ministers affirmed the commitment of their countries to the fight against terrorism, violent extremism and the promotion of conflict prevention and resolution on the African continent.
The sixth session of the Joint Commission is to be held in Tunisia in the first half of 2019.
The last joint ministerial session was held in 2009.
