The number of British tourists staying in hotels in Sousse and El Kantaoui in the period between January 1 and March 10, 2019 edged up 700% and of overnights soared 864%.
During this period, 6,698 Britons had spent 47,531 overnights against only 883 tourists and 4,931 overnights during the same period last year, said Regional Tourism Commissioner in Sousse Bassem Ouertani.
“The overall number of tourist arrivals of various nationalities in Sousse-El Kantaoui since the beginning of 2019 had reached 129,897 tourists against 117,473 during the same period in 2018, up 11%,” Ouertani said.
The number of overnight stays rose by 22.5% to 398,568 against 325,322 during the same period in 2018.
This rise is due to the return of the Brits, Spanish and French and the increase in the number of Algerian tourists.
The domestic market is still in the lead in the region. Actually, hotels in the Sousse-El Kantaoui region accommodated 54,986 Tunisians since the start of 2019, with 90,211 overnights stays.
