Tunisia: over 1800 MW of renewable energies to be installed by 2020

The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies is working to install 1000 MW of renewable energy by 2020, Minister Khaled Kaddour said at a workshop currently held in Gammarth.

He pointed out that in view of the encouraging results recorded following recent offers on the authorization regime for PV projects of 10 MW (which are around 5 cents / kWh) and the growing interest perceived for the current program, from all stakeholders, investors, donors, international institutions and civil society, the ministry has recently undertaken to raise its target to 1860 MW to be installed over the next 3 to 4 years.

The minister also explained that given the current prices of different renewable energy technologies, the current program focuses on wind and PV whose prices are the most competitive, according to him.
