Phosphate production in Gafsa has jumped by 34% to 2016, Hechem Hmidi, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energies, told Jawhara FM on Friday (October 06, 2017).

He was referring to sit-ins, protests and other malevolent acts that cost the CPG (Gafsa Phosphate Company) and the GCT (Tunisian Chemical Group) dear.
Moreover, Hmidi pointed to the problems of the sector, the most glaring of which are the lack of trains of specialized goods and social instability.
This does not stop him from being very optimistic for the future: he expects a production of 5 million tons of phosphate by the end of 2017, and even better next year, 7 million tons, almost the same level as before the Revolution.
This is also a level that would allow Tunisia to return under the radars of its traditional customers and satisfy the big needs of the Turkish market…
