Tunisia ranks 48th out of 146 countries in terms of social progress

Tunisia has ranked 48th out of 146 countries in the 2018 Social Progress Index. It ranks significantly better than Qatar (57th), Algeria (74th) and Morocco 76th.

“The Social Progress Index provides a rich framework for measuring the multiple dimensions of social progress, evaluating success, and catalyzing greater human well-being.

The social progress index score is an average for the three dimensions: basic human needs, well-being and opportunities.”

Tunisia has performed comparatively well in the areas of Personal Rights (with a score of 85.31 out of 100), Personal Freedom and Choice (72.16) and Equality of political power by socioeconomic position (2.65).

It performed relatively poorly, particularly in adults’ literacy rate (79.04), gender parity in secondary enrollment (1.11), freedom of religion (2.91), discrimination and violence against minorities (7.40) and traffic deaths (24.62).
