Tunisia: record tourist season

The tourist season is experiencing an unprecedented recovery since 2014; in fact, tourism receipts grew by 46.1% compared to 2017, reaching TD 1,293 million.

The number of tourists over the same period reached 3.23 million, up 26% compared to 2017.

First, there was a recovery in the traditional markets, the number of French tourists grew d by 50%, that of German by 61% and that of Algerian by 18.7%.

Moreover, the number of tourists from new markets has grown steadily; the Russian market has grown by 48% while the Chinese market went up by 55%.

The number of overnight stays increased by 57%; the highest rises are those of the French (70%), followed by the Russians (60%) and the German (50%).

This recovery of the sector is largely the result of the improved security experienced by Tunisia, and the beginning of recovery from the effects of terrorist attacks that occurred in the country three years ago.

Tour Operators, including Thomas Cook and TUI, also played an important role in restoring confidence in the Tunisia destination.

Tunisian officials expect to receive more than 8 million tourists for the year 2018, thanks to new markets such as Russia, China and the Gulf countries.
