Tunisia: reported investment in regional development zones rises 19%

The first five months of 2018 saw a 19.3% increase in reported investment in the regional development zones to 889.9 MD from 746 MD during the first five months of 2017.

The share of these areas in all governorates grew from 40.9% to 56% in the first five months of 2018, said the APII business letter.

The increase in reported investments in the regional development zones is mainly attributable to the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, whose reported investments rose by 317.1% in the first five months of 2018 (153.3 MD Vs 36.8 MD).

The same goes for the governorate of Gafsa, whose investments reached 50.1 MD.

Similarly, investments reported in the regional development delegation of the Sfax governorate went up from 39.8 MD to 120.2 MD during the first five months of 2018 (+ 201.8%).

Moreover, reported investments in the governorate of Kairouan posted an increase of 39.3% during the first five months of 2018 (75.9 MD against 54.5 MD), particularly following the reported creation of a pharmaceuticals unit for a total of 20 MD.

This is the same for the regional development delegation of the governorate of Medenine whose investments reached 59.1 MD against 17.8 MD during the first five months of 2017.
