Tunisia: significant purchases of grain despite food balance deficit

Tunisia’s state grains agency has issued an international tender to purchase 75,000 tons of soft wheat and 50,000 tons of feed barley, European traders said on Tuesday.

The tender deadline is May 15.

The grain can be sourced from optional origins, they said.

The wheat was sought in three 25,000 ton consignments for shipment between June 25 and Aug. 5, depending on the origin supplied, they said.

If sourced from Tunisia’s traditional supply region, the Black Sea/east Europe, shipment of the three wheat consignments was between July 5-15, July 15-25 and July 25-Aug. 5.

The barley was sought in two 25,000 ton consignments for shipment between Sept. 15 and Nov. 5, depending on the origin supplied, they said.
