Tunisia recorded the arrival of 474,145 tourists, against 379,438 entries in January 2018, up 25%. This figure is up 25.1% from January 2010, according to official statistics unveiled by the Ministry of Tourism in January 2019.
The number of foreign non-residents is 387,652, i.e. an increase of 31% compared to January 2018 and 16.4% compared to January 2010. They represent 81.8% of the total volume of arrivals in Tunisia.
The inflow of Tunisians living abroad is up 3.7% compared to January 2018 with 86,493 arrivals.
They are up 88.5% compared to January 2010. They represent 18.2% of the total general arrivals.
Europeans account for 64,114 arrivals and represent 13.5% of the overall total, up 24.6% from 2018; but down 35.2% from the same period of 2010.
The French, who are still in the lead, account for 31,787 arrivals, up 18.3%; the Brits pick up and move to 6,538 arrivals, up 265.9%; Italians totaled 6,259 arrivals, up 3.8% and Germans registered 6,247 entries, up 9%.
Belgians increased by 0.6% with 2,461 entries, Spaniards totaled 1,203 entries, the Swiss registered 815 arrivals, up 6.5%, Scandinavians rose to 802 arrivals, up 13.6% and the Dutch with 623 arrivals grew 3.7%.
Smaller markets are also improving, notably the Greeks: 143 arrivals (+ 43%), the Portuguese: 449 entries (+ 17.2%), the Irish: 172 entries (+ 27.4%) and the Turks: 1,095 arrivals (+ 8.6%).
Others have not seen any improvement, especially Luxembourgers: 80 arrivals (-13%) and Maltese: 145 arrivals (-3.3%).
As for the Central European markets, Poles are in good recovery with 2,044 entries, up 683.1%, Romanians achieve 560 arrivals, up 71.3%, the flow of Czechs rises to 270, up 38.5% and Ukrainians register 243 entries, up 48.2%.
Also, Serbs are increasing with 196 arrivals, up 67.5%, Bulgarians: 127 entries (+ 84.1%), Hungarians: 126 entries (+ 21.2%), Slovaks: 85 entries (+ 51.8%), Lithuanians: 64 arrivals (+ 113.3%) and Croats: 46 arrivals (+ 31.4%).
On the other hand, the Russians show a 46% decrease with 781 entries and the Slovenes: 32 entries (-45.8%).
Moreover, 309,459 Maghrebis entered Tunisia during that period, up 33.1% and accounting for 65.3% of the total volume of arrivals.
Algerians, in constant progress, are in the lead with 157,922 arrivals (+ 21.8%). The Libyans, in second place, total 146,057 entries, up 49.7%. Moroccans are also up 3.7% with 4,183 entries. Only Mauritanians are down 2.9% with 1,297 entries.
With regard to far-distant markets, North Americans continue to improve with 2,701 arrivals, up 21%. The US market totals 1,674 entries, up 21.6% and the Canadian market is up 20% with 1,027 entries.
Africans are not in the least since they record 3,124 arrivals, growing by 5.6%. The Japanese start the year with a strong recovery of 419.4%, or 1,044 entries. The Chinese are up 11.8% with 2,147 entries.
The region of Djerba-Zarzis, in the lead, recorded 183,690 overnight stays, up 25%. It is followed by Sousse which totals 164,289 overnight stays, up 21.5%.
Yasmine-Hammamet has 104,800 overnight stays, up 16.5%. With 82,481 nights, Nabeul-Hammamet is up 7.6%.
In Monastir-Skanes, overnight stays amounted to 37,986, i.e. a growth of 8.7%.
Hotels in Tunis-Côtes de Carthage achieved 123,579 overnight stays, up 8.7%.
In the South, Gafsa-Tozeur achieved 22,692 overnight stays, up 17.5%. Kebili-Douz is also up with a positive rate of 7.8%, or 8,353 overnight stays.
Overnights in Tataouine improve by 28% with 1,810 overnight stays. Gabes is also up 21.3% with 7,308 overnight stays.
The region of Sfax has a net growth of 22.9% with a volume of 21 850 nights.
The hotels in Tabarka-Ain Draham worked well during this month, recording, with 37,368 overnight stays, an increase of 45.6%. Bizerte-Béjà recovered with 7,593 overnight stays, i.e. an increase of 26.7%. The Kairouan region recorded 5,734 overnight stays, up 20.9%.
