Tunisia: tourist receipts amount to 1.1 billion dinars at end of April (BCT)

Tunisia’s international tourist receipts amounted to 1.1 billion dinars at the end of the first four months of the year, compared with 825 million of dinars a year ago, i.e. a growth of 300 million dinars or 36.4%, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

This growth is largely due to the exchange rate effect, as the dinar depreciated by 10.5% against the euro between the end of April 2018 (1 euro = 3.001 dinar) and the end of April 2019 (1 euro = 3,352 dinars).

Against the dollar, the national currency depreciated by 18.5% from 2.443 dinars to 2.998 dinars between the two dates.

It should be remembered that Tunisian tourism recorded good figures last year with nearly 8.3 million foreign visitors having stayed in Tunisia, compared to 7 million in 2017.

For the current year, the Ministry of Tourism expects 9 million tourists.
