Tunisia: trade deficit reaches over 3.6 billion dinars

Tunisia’s trade deficit contracted again at the end of the first three months of the current year compared to the same period in 2017.

In Indeed, it stood at 3,660 billion dinars at the end of March against 3.880 billion a year earlier, recording an improvement of 6% (220 million dinars).

Nevertheless, the trade deficit deteriorated sharply compared to the end of last February when it amounted to 2.2 billion dinars, i.e. a worsening of more than 1.45 billion dinars.

In detail, exports continue to grow at a steady pace. They, therefore, increased by 35.2% over one year.

In value, they reached 10.18 billion dinars against 7.53 billion during the same period in 2017.

As for imports, they maintain a remarkable growth rate recording an increase of 21.3% to 13.8 billion dinars against 11.4 billion at the end of March 2017.

In dollar terms, the value of exports increased by 28% while imports increased by 14.6%.

Therefore, the coverage rate posted an improvement of 7.6 percentage points to 73.6% against 66% at the end of the first quarter of the previous year.
