Tunisia: unemployment rate falls to 15.1%, its lowest level since Q1 2015

The unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points in the third quarter of the current year compared to the second quarter to 15.1%, its lowest level since the first quarter of 2015, the National Statistics Institute (INS) announced last Friday.

Indeed, the estimated number of unemployed people for the third quarter of 2019 is 628,300 of the total active population, compared to 634,900 unemployed people for the second quarter of 2019.

The unemployment rate is estimated at 12.2% for men and 22.0% for women.

Among young people aged 15-24, the unemployment rate is 34.7%. This rate is estimated at 34.3% for men and 35.5% for women.

The number of unemployed graduates in higher education is estimated at 262,700 in the third quarter of 2019 compared to 253,000 in the second quarter of 2019, up 9,700 unemployed.

The unemployment rate for this group increased from 28.0% to 28.6%.

The active population in Tunisia stands at 4.172 million in the third quarter of 2019 compared to 4.162 million in the second quarter of 2019, i.e. a rise of about 9,100 people.

This population is divided into 2.965 million men and 1.206 million women, representing 71.1% and 28.9% of the working population respectively.
