Tunisia: volume of banknotes and coins in circulation exceeds 14 billion TND

Currency in circulation continued to increase until the Aid al-Idha holiday to reach 14.2 billion dinars on August 9, 2019, the highest level recorded so far, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

The increase in currency in circulation reflects a clear preference of Tunisians and economic operators for the use of cash.

This observation is all the more confirmed by the compared evolution since 2011 of the average annual growth rates of banknotes and currencies in circulation at the end of the period or in terms of annual average and current GDP.
