Tunisia: wage bill of civil servants close to 17 billion TND in 2019

    The wage bill for civil servants continues to weigh heavily on the state budget. Indeed, the total wages of civil servants will amount to 16.76 billion dinars in 2019, against 14.77 billion dinars a year earlier, up 2 billion dinars or +13.5%.

    According to the provisional results of the execution of the State Budget at the end of 2019, these remunerations represent 63.4% of the total State management expenditure, compared to 62.4% in 2018.

    Indeed, last year, the State’s management expenses reached 26.4 billion dinars, against 23.7 billion in 2018, posting a growth of 11.6%.

    Apart from the salaries of civil servants, this expenditure was disbursed for the acquisition of goods and services up to 1.6 billion dinars (+32.8%) and for interventions and transfers up to 8 billion dinars (+4.7%).

    As for capital expenditure (development), it amounts to 6.14 billion dinars, against 5.94 billion in 2018, an increase of 3.3%.

    They concerned direct investments for 2.7 billion dinars (-2.8%), public financing for 1.9 billion dinars (+11.9%), external loans for State projects for 669 million dinars (-5.3%) and the treasury fund for 835.1 million dinars (+14.6%).
